Advocacy for Education Service
For many parents, understanding their entitlements and the processes involved in getting their child's additional support needs met is confusing and complex. Autism is thought to be on the increase and many parents struggle to get the right kind of educational provision for their child. The Advocacy for Education Service aims to enable parents who have children with an autistic spectrum disorder to get the most appropriate educational provision for their child. Advisers will endeavour to help parents obtain appropriate educational provision for their child and provide advice on issues which include: getting extra help at school, Co-ordinated Support Plans, annual reviews, exclusions and admissions.
Transition Project
The Transition Service supports young people who have Aspergers Syndrome/ High Functioning Autism in preparing for the transition from school to adult life. Many of the young people that we work with have difficulties sustaining their place at school. Some young people have withdrawn from school themselves (usually as a result of bullying) and others have been suspended or permanently excluded from school (often related to behaviour). We support young people and the school to try and develop strategies to resolve issues that are resulting in negative behavioural responses or are making school places untenable.
Teen Scene
Teen scene offers activities and social opportunities in the evenings and school holidays for young people aged between 12-18 years with an autistic spectrum disorder. We operate in East Dunbartonshire, Glasgow and North Ayrshire. We introduce the young people to activities that they may not get the opportunity to access in a supported environment. It offers activities to the young people that are often isolated from mainstream groups in the community and gives families short respite. Often young people that are able enough are able to link in to main stream activities, either as a result of time at group or with support from staff.
Daldorch School
Daldorch House School in Ayrshire is the sixth school to be established by The National Autistic Society (NAS). It is the first 52 week autism-specific residential school to be established in Scotland by the NAS, providing residential places for forty children aged 5-19 years. The first group of pupils enrolled in the school commenced in November 1998.
