The Directions Project

The Directions Project in South Ayrshire works with children aged 5 – 12 who have challenging behaviour and are at risk of offending. The project uses a cognitive behavioural group work programme (Incredible Years) to help children improve behaviour, appropriately express emotions, improve peer relationships and problem solve. The project also works with parents (Incredible Years) to help them to employ appropriate parenting strategies. Parents are supported to use positive parenting strategies such as play praise and tangible rewards, and also to use non-physical limit setting strategies such as Time Out.

Incredible Years are research-based, proven effective programs for reducing children’s aggression and behaviour problems and increasing social competence at home and in school. More information is available at
