More about Harmeny Education projects

Harmeny School

harmeny logoHarmeny School is an all year round resource for primary aged children who suffer significant social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. It is supported by the Scottish Government and works with children, families and local authorities from all over Scotland.

At Harmeny School we provide specialist help to enable children to address and overcome disadvantage. Our aim is to help children live in families and local communities and go to school within the community.

We specialise in working with children who exhibit significant social, emotional and behavioural difficulties across a wide continuum, including serve attachment disorder, specific learning needs, ADHD, and conduct disorders. We also work with children who are on the autistic spectrum.

We offer an integrated education, care and social work service on a residential and day basis to children of primary school age.

We work within an articulated therapeutic framework which includes working with carers and sibling groups. We are supported in our work by a highly skilled, experienced qualified in-house team and our experienced external professional consultants.

Fundamental to our approach is our belief in children’s ability to develop resilience based resourcefulness in order to address adversity. By providing skilled help at an early stage we make a difference to children’s lives.

Harmeny is located in a 30 acre site in Balerno near Edinburgh. Over the last 6 years the physical resources have been upgraded to provide a purpose built education and living campus which is highly regarded as a good model for learning and living environments. The grounds also provide for an outdoor education resource which is integrated into the setting.
