More about Helm Training Projects
Helm Training, located at 48 St. Andrews Lane, Dundee and 30 Dishlandtown Street, Arbroath, provides additional support in the areas of training and development to disadvantaged young people aged 16-18 who are in the ‘More Choices, More Chances’ group. It also works with young people aged 15 who are in their final year of statutory education. Those aged 16-18 years undertake the Get Ready for Work programme which includes core skills of numeracy, literacy, problem solving, IT and working with others, along with social skills, communication and health issues. Drama and Art are used as enabling activities to address many of these issues.
We also have an allotment project, Helm’s Harvest and are about to launch a healthy living initiative, LIVE –It.
Our Employment Liaison Officer sources work experience placements, job opportunities and suitable courses for those who wish to enter further education/training opportunities and supports them in making the transition either to work or further education.
Those aged 15 who are in their final year of statutory education and whose attendance and performance at school has been erratic, follow an alternative option to school, aimed at developing their personal, educational and social skills and improving their self-confidence and self-esteem thus aiding the transition from school to employment or further education. Many transfer at 16 to the Get Ready for Work programme.
