More about Penumbra projects
Young People and Self Harm
For a number of years, Penumbra has been one of the main organisations in Scotland working in the field of self-harm, particularly in the 16-25 year old age group. Between 30-50% of young people we work with have experienced, or are experiencing, self-harm to some degree. Penumbra believes that young people are experts of their own lives and experiences and it is only by involving them can we provide the type of help they require. We have now gone on to develop a number of projects specifically focussing on self-harm which aim to bring together young people, carers and families, and professionals to jointly improve services for this group of young people. We have young peoples self harm projects in Edinburgh, Fife, Borders, North Ayrshire and West Lothian. We also offer self harm education and training for practitioners.

Penumbra Youth Projects
We have youth projects in the Borders, Fife and West Lothian offering support and advice to any young people who may be experiencing mental health difficulties. We provide a safe place for young people to talk confidentially about anything that's bothering them. We encourage young people to talk about their problems on their terms in a friendly non-judgemental way. We treat young people with respect, and encourage them to become involved in decision making and have an influence over the service they receive. We offer drop ins, 1 : 1 work, group work, outdoor activities, social activities, self esteem, assertiveness, emotional well being and more!
