General

Listening to Children: Research and Consultation

This ten-week training course is designed for those who work with children and young people and want to improve their skills of research and consultation. Run by the Centre for Research on Families and Relationships (CRFR), it involves a combination of online learning and classroom sessions based at the University of Edinburgh. Effective Community Work - A New CPD Opportunity - A six-session evening class

The aim of the course is to support participants to critically analyse and articulate elements of good practice. The course is aimed at those qualified in Community Education and related fields. There will be an option for assessment and accreditation towards the Advanced Professional studies Programme. The Positive Behaviour Team: Training Opportunities

The ‘Promoting Positive Behaviour’ Team is seconded to the Support for Learning Division of the Scottish Government and has a remit to provide training and ongoing support to schools and education authorities to assist with the development of approaches to promoting positive behaviour throughout Scotland. The Team is led by Maggie Fallon and is made up of 8 members. Each team member has lead responsibility for a specific thematic positive behaviour approach, including The Motivated School, Solution Orientated Schools, Developing Empathy Training for Staff, Being Cool in School, Nurture and Restorative practices. The team has the responsibility to share these approaches with schools and staff across Scotland’s 32 local authorities. There are now opportunities for voluntary sector practitioners to access local joint training through the team. Initial queries about promoting positive behaviour and the team should be made to Derrick Bruce who leads on residential care/looked after children and the voluntary sector. Fast Forward Positive Lifestyles

Fast Forward is a national voluntary organisation based in Edinburgh working with young people and adults providing quality health education focusing on a range of subjects regarding young people’s health and well being. Up coming training courses include young people and self esteem, peer education and cannabis information session.

The FRIENDS Programme: a proven, preventative approach to support children’s anxiety and emotional wellbeing, Stirling, numerous dates

The FRIENDS programme is endorsed by the World Health Organisation and supported by the Scottish Government. The programme teaches children practical skills to identify anxiety-increasing thoughts and replace them with more helpful thoughts, learn how to manage anxious feelings, and to use strategies to overcome problems rather than avoid them. The 10-session programme can be delivered to a whole class, small group or individual, with additional sessions for parents.

Right Track Scotland: Training Courses

Right Track offers education, training and employment opportunities to young people and unemployed adults requiring additional support to enter the labour market. Right Track offer a number of training courses including Managing Difficult and Aggressive Behaviour, Dyslexia Awareness and Data Security.

Mental Health First Aid

As with physical health, mental health first aid is based on the idea that the earlier a person can get help the better. It teaches people how to recognise the signs and symptoms of mental health problems, how to help in a crisis, and to guide people towards getting assistance. Penumbra has designed a course aimed at everyone in Scotland, whoever they are and wherever they live and work.

Children 1st Child Protection and Training Consultancy

Children 1st Child Protection Training and Consultancy equips organisations involved with children, young people and families to be competent and confident about protecting children.

Our staff and associate trainers are skilled in child protection practice, policy and research and have experience and understanding of a wide range of specific issues and settings. We have worked with local authorities, voluntary groups and charities assisting them to play their part in keeping children safe.
